Costa Rica Sport Fishing

Tropical paradise offering incredible Marlin, Sailfish, and Dorado fishing opportunities.

Fishing in Costa Rica

In Costa Rica this year my clients caught many Sailfish and large Yellowfin Tuna. My last group caught six Blue Marlin, and had a Black Marlin steal two baits, but never got hooked.

Targeted Sport Fishing Species in Costa Rica

Offshore species on the Pacific side: Sailfish, Dorado, Marlin, and Yellowfin Tuna.
Inshore species: Roosterfish, various Snappers, Snook, Needlefish, and more.
Enquire about FAD and Seamount trips, with two or three night stays far offshore for incredible Blue Marlin fishing.
Atlantic side: Tarpon, Gapoute (Rainbow Bass), and Snook.

Additional Available Side Trips in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has many great features which can be explored before, during or after a fishing trip. I can customize a package to include both touring and fishing.

*The Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfalls: Located in a mountainous area an hour drive from the San Jose airport. Here you will find cooler weather and spectacular views of the surrounding terrain. The La Paz Waterfalls are a sight not to be missed.

*La Fortuna: A three hour drive or short flight from San Jose. The mighty Arenal Volcano towers over the area. There are many places here where you can soak in the natural hot springs which flow down from the volcano. Lake Arenal is is the largest inland body of water in Costa Rica. The lake provides fishing, boating and kayaking opportunities. The surrounding area offers hiking, biking, horseback riding and bird watching.

*Jaco: Located in the Central Pacific is a fun surfing and fishing destination with lots of nightlife and close to the high-end American Resort and Golf Club of Los Suenos. Nearby Tarcalos River is a great place for a boat tour to view birds, huge crocodiles, and other wildlife.

*Quepos: This is where Manuel Antonio National Park and the modern Pez Vela Marina are located. There are shops, bars, and restaurants at the Marina. Inside the National Park you can view wildlife including monkeys, sloths, tropical white tail deer, and many species of birds. You will also find several beautiful beaches.

*Tortuguero: Located on the Caribean side of the county where several large rivers enter the ocean. The scenic mangroves are the perfect place to view birds and other wildlife. Excellent Tarpon fishing can be found in this area.

*Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve: With over 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, 120 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 3,000 types of plants make this is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
